Tour Details
Our guided tour of Santoña begins next to the Monument to Juan de la Cosa. You will hear about his background and historic achievements as we stroll down the Paseo de Pereda, parallel to the Cantabrian coast. At one end of this avenue, you will see the Fort of San Martín, significant during the Napoleonic invasions of the 19th century.
Nearby, we’ll find a sculpture erected as a tribute to the carnival in Santoña, recognized as a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest. After discussing this carnival, we'll share facts about the Torre de la Aguada, a former water reservoir for steamships in the early 20th century.
With views of the sea, we’ll learn about the maritime tradition of the villa with terms like secadero and tintero. We’ll also see the Plaza de Toros de Santoña, close to the port and the Lonja de Pescado. The final point of the tour will be the fishing port, where we will explore the town's fishing tradition and its significance in the local economy, specifically regarding the Cantabrian anchovy.
We'll enter the port to visit its auction room, where fresh fish is traded. This concludes the tour.
