Discover the anchovy canning process in Cantabria with this Santoña Canning Factory & Marshland Tour. You'll also visit one of the town's prominently visited locations.
Description
We'll meet at the designated time near the mural of Santoña, alongside the Avenida de Lons parking lot. Prepare to discover one of Cantabria's hidden treasures. Let's embark on this journey!
Before starting our excursion, we'll explore the rich history and culture of Santoña, highlighting notable figures such as Juan de la Cosa, a sailor and cartographer involved in the exploration of the Americas, and delving into stories of the Faro del Caballo and Santoña's celebrated Carnival, a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Then, we’ll visit the Natural Park of the Marshes of Santoña, Victoria, and Joyel. As we traverse this expansive wetland, we will discuss its significance as a habitat for various migratory bird species.
Next, we'll tour a Santoña anchovy canning factory, with the specific factory varying by season. We'll observe the process of preparing anchovy fillets, from cleaning to packaging for consumption.
After the factory tour, we'll enjoy a tasting session of Santoña's anchovies, a key element of Cantabrian cuisine.
After approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours, we will conclude our excursion.
Partial Closures
On Saturday, public holidays, and long weekends, the factory may be closed. If this occurs, an employee will provide an anchovy filleting demonstration.
