Liberdade Tour + Museum of Japanese Immigration
We'll meet at 11:30 am at Praça da Liberdade to start this tour through the eastern district of Sao Paulo: Liberdade.
In the same square, we'll begin by learning about the history of this particular neighborhood, which became the center of Asian culture in this Brazilian city. We'll walk through the surrounding streets until we reach the Capela de Santa Cruz and the nearby Chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Aflitos, notable temples.
The next stop will be at the Lohan Temple, located in a 19th-century home. While admiring its exterior, we'll discuss its significance as a nerve center of Chinese culture in Sao Paulo. We'll cover the impact of Chinese immigration on the city during the tour.
Next, we'll visit the Museum of Japanese Immigration in Brazil, exploring its exhibition on Brazil's Japanese community. Liberdade is recognized as the world's largest Japanese community outside of Japan.
After the museum, we'll head to the Jardim Oriental and Largo da Pólvora park. The tour will conclude in the Liberdade restaurant area where you can enjoy traditional Asian dishes on your own.
