Sarajevo Walking Tour
We will meet at Zelenih Beretki 30 at the scheduled time to commence our guided walking tour through the old town of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, symbolizing the Balkan War of the 1990s.
During the guided tour of Sarajevo, we will delve into the city's history, which was an Ottoman stronghold in the 15th century. Key events include the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, which sparked the First World War.
We will visit Mejdan Park near the Miljacka River and observe the impressive architecture of various buildings, including the Emperor's Mosque and religious temples such as synagogues, mosques, and churches, including the Franciscan Church of St. Anthony. This diversity illustrates why Sarajevo is referred to as the “Jerusalem of Europe”.
The tour will also highlight the oldest brewery of the Ottoman Empire and traditional cuisine streets like Bravadžiluk and Kazandžiluk.
As we proceed, we will view significant architectural examples, including the Bicakcic-Hadzisabanovic and Spite houses, and visit the cemetery honoring Bosnian defenders of the war ending in 1995.
Additionally, we will explore the Baš?aršija, the old bazaar, where we can browse stalls and purchase souvenirs. This route includes Bravadžiluk and Kazandžiluk streets, highlighting local culinary offerings, and the vibrant Markale market, rich in culture and flavors.
After visiting landmarks like the Sebilg Fountain and the Eternal Flame, the tour will conclude approximately 2 hours later at the meeting point.
