Tunnel of Hope Tour
We'll meet at Zelenih Beretki 30, and then head towards an impressive location in the capital. The road will take us through Sniper Avenue, one of the most dangerous places in the city during the war, and past the Markale market, site of a significant massacre during the siege.
Next, we'll see the Presidency building, a key point in wartime political organization, and the RTV Dom, which informed the population during emergencies. As we navigate the city, we'll discuss the design of the communist neighborhoods and their reflection of Sarajevo's contemporary history.
We'll arrive at the entrance to the Sarajevo Tunnel, located 5 meters (16 feet) underground and constructed in 1993 to facilitate escape during the Bosnian War. This 800-metre-long (2,624 feet) underground passageway, known as the Tunnel of Hope, connected Sarajevo to the outside world during the siege, providing crucial supplies. Inside the museum, we'll explore its construction and hear stories from those who lived through this period. Visitors had to wear masks to navigate due to lack of ventilation.
Finally, we will return to the meeting point and conclude the 2.5-hour tour.
