In the abandoned and demilitarised city of Cheorwon, the impact of the Korean conflict is evident. This day trip from Seoul explores its history.

Description

The Korean War caused significant collateral damage, especially in Cheorwon, controlled by North Korea since 1945. Post-war, it has been rebuilt as part of South Korea, yet military trucks and checkpoints are still common, reminding visitors of past horrors.

The day trip begins at the demilitarized area of Cheorwon, where a plaque reads, "The iron horse wants to run again". Your guide will explain its significance during the tour.

We'll visit the Second Tunnel, the widest in Korea and closest to North Korea, discovered in 1975. A 3.5-kilometre (2.1 miles) walk will reveal this secret invasion route.

The itinerary includes the Cheorwon Peace Observatory, which honors victims of the conflict and offers views of the border between the Koreas.

Next, we'll explore the Woljeong-ri Railway Station, damaged beyond use by US bombing. A lunch made from various vegetables will be provided.

We will return to Seoul, arriving 11 to 13 hours after departure.
