Join us on a guided exploration of the Archive of the Indies, where we will delve into the rich history of Seville and its connections to the Americas. This is an experience not to be overlooked!
Tour Overview
We will convene at the agreed time just outside the Archive of the Indies in Seville, marking the start of our guided journey through this remarkable World Heritage Site. Let's begin!
The tour kicks off at the main entrance of the Archive of the Indies. Before we venture inside, we will take a brief walk around the exterior, gaining insight into the historical ties among the neighboring buildings, including the esteemed Cathedral and the Alcázar.
As we proceed with our exploration, we will enter the Archive of the Indies to uncover its purpose and the invaluable treasures it safeguards. It’s fascinating to note that this institution was established in 1785 under the reign of King Carlos III, arising from a dispute involving Seville's Cathedral and local merchants during the 16th century. Are you ready to dive deep into the stories of this remarkable site?
During our visit to its two levels, we will unveil the various functions this building served prior to its designation as the General Archive of the Indies. Furthermore, we will examine artifacts and documents of immeasurable significance housed within its walls.
After approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, our guided exploration will conclude at the front entrance of the Archive of the Indies.
