Laki Volcano Day Trip

On this day trip to Laki Volcano, we will explore one of the significant landscapes in southern Iceland and learn about the history and effects of its eruption over 200 years ago.

At 9 am, we will pick you up from your selected point in Kirkjubæjarklaustur and board a jeep for the hour and a half drive to Laki Volcano.

During the tour, we will discuss the history of this volcanic rift, noting that its 200-year-old eruption altered the climate of Europe and resulted in the loss of a quarter of the Icelandic population.

Upon arrival, we will ascend the mountain over two and a half hours, enjoying views of the craters and the Vatnajökull glacier. Participants may take pictures and enjoy a picnic lunch brought from home.

Next, we will travel to the Tjarnargígur crater to walk around and reach the lake formed within. We will also visit the hidden waterfall of Fagrifoss and hike through its narrow gorge, concluding the day trip.

Finally, we will return to the jeep and head back to Kirkjubæjarklaustur, completing the activity after 9 hours from the pick-up time.
