Curious about pre-Columbian history? In this excursion to the Finca 6 Archaeological Site, we'll visit one of the main enclaves of the Diquís culture in Costa Rica.
Finca 6 Archaeological Site Excursion
We'll meet at 8 am at Sierpe's Pier, where we'll set off by road to the north of the town.
After a short 15-minute drive, we'll arrive at the Finca 6 Archaeological Site, where we'll see remnants of the Diquís culture. This civilization developed in the territory of the current Costa Rican canton of Osa, where impressive remains of their society can be found.
We'll begin a guided tour of the Finca 6 Archaeological Site, declared a World Heritage Site, observing the mysterious stone spheres of the Diquís culture. We'll address questions regarding the purpose and construction of these spheres during the tour.
Our tour of the site continues with a visit to the museum of Finca 6. Here we'll admire four original pieces of great value: a sphere, a statue with a spike base, a feline sculpture, and a ceremonial grinding stone. We'll learn about the functionality of these objects and other aspects of the Diquís culture.
After visiting the museum, we'll return to the meeting point in Sierpe, arriving between 10 and 10:30 am.
