Polonnaruwa & Pidurangala Excursion

This excursion begins with a hotel pickup in Sigiriya at 10 am. The first stop is Polonnaruwa, reached approximately an hour and a quarter later. Visitors will explore the ruins of this ancient kingdom, founded by King Vijayabahu in 1070, using bicycles for a comfortable experience.

Next, the group will transition to an ox-drawn cart for a ride on the outskirts of Polonnaruwa, a traditional mode of transport in some villages. Following this, participants will board a boat on Bendiwewa Lake to gain a different perspective of the surroundings.

The tour includes a visit to a local farmer’s residence, where insights into traditional countryside life will be provided. After this stop, participants will return to the minibus and travel to the ancient monastery of Pidurangala to appreciate the ruins set in a natural environment. For physically fit visitors, there is an option to climb Pidurangala Rock for panoramic views of Sigiriya, a task stated to be rewarding.

The excursion concludes with a return to the hotel in Sigiriya, expected to arrive by 2 pm.
