Learn about the customs and lifestyle of the Misak people, a pre-Hispanic population in the south of Colombia, on this tour from Silvia.

Tour of Misak Culture

At 8 am, we'll meet at the main park of Silvia. We'll board a minibus and travel to the outskirts of the town for a cultural tour focused on the ancient customs of the indigenous people of the Colombian department of Cauca.

After a 45-minute drive, we'll arrive at a Misak orchard or yatul. Misak women will welcome us and explain the organization of the crops and planting processes. Participants can also get involved by helping with the harvest.

Next, we'll visit the Misak house to learn about their century-long lifestyle in Silvia. The tour includes the kitchens, considered sacred, discussions about traditions, and embroidery techniques for clothing.

After the Misak house visit, we'll enjoy a lunch with either a fish or vegetarian dish, accompanied by a drink and local fruit.

Post-lunch, we'll return to the minibus for a visit to the Casa Payán Interpretation Center, where we'll explore the medicinal plants significant to Miskitu and Colombian culture.

The tour will conclude at 2:30 pm at the starting point.
