Cerro de Pasco Tour
Pickup will be at 10 am from your accommodation in Cerro de Pasco. This city began as a mining settlement in the 16th century, near the then capital, Villa de Pasco.
The tour starts at Chaupimarca square, home to the church of San Miguel Arcángel, founded in 1827 and containing relics from colonial times. We will then continue to Daniel Alcides Carrión square to see the monument honoring the scientist whose work on Carrión's disease was vital in the 19th century.
Next, we will admire buildings that reflectCerro de Pasco's mining history, such as the Casa de Piedra 'Stone House' and the Villa Minera 'Mining Village'. Following this, we will visit the renowned mining site of Cerro de Pasco, while passing monuments like the Lourdes Castle and Pasco Column.
In this open-pit mine, known as "El Tajo", we will learn about Cerro de Pasco's significance to the Peruvian mining industry, where gold, silver, copper, zinc, and lead have been extracted since colonial times.
We will also visit Carrión's house, a replica of the home of the "martyr of Peruvian medicine", located at the entrance of a hospital named after him.
The tour will conclude with a return to your accommodation at 12 pm.
