Cerro de Pasco Tour
Pickup will be at 10 am from your accommodation in Cerro de Pasco. The tour begins with a visit to Chaupimarca square, featuring the church of San Miguel Arcángel, founded in 1827 and housing colonial relics. We will then proceed to Daniel Alcides Carrión square to view the monument dedicated to Carrión, whose research on Carrión's disease was significant in the 19th century.
The tour includes notable structures from Cerro de Pasco's mining past, such as the Casa de Piedra or 'Stone House' and the Villa Minera or 'Mining Village'. We will pass by monuments including Lourdes Castle and the Pasco Column before arriving at the open-pit mine, referred to as "El Tajo". Here, we will learn about the significance of Cerro de Pasco to the Peruvian mining industry, where gold, silver, copper, zinc, and lead have been mined since colonial times.
We will conclude the tour with a visit to Carrión's house, a replica of the residence of the "martyr of Peruvian medicine". The house is situated at the entrance of a hospital named after him.
You will be returned to your accommodation by 12 pm.
