Goñicutac, Astobamba & Warawtampu Day Trip
At 7 am, we'll pick you up from your accommodation in Cerro de Pasco and head to the Chaupihuaranga Valley. Upon arrival at the village of Rocco, we will undertake a 1-hour 30-minute walk to the Goñicutac Archaeological Complex, an ancient settlement of the Yaros community, which thrived in the 13th century.
Here, we will explore its streets, small squares, and passages while learning about its history and the hydraulic systems that provided water. Additionally, we will visit the Temple of the Moon, where sacrifices were made to honor this celestial entity.
Next, we will travel to Yanahuanca for free time to have lunch, before continuing our exploration of the valley's archaeological sites.
Located just 3 miles from Yanahuanca, the Astobamba and Warawtampu archaeological sites will be our next stops. A bridge built by the Incas connects these locations, which includes the Astobamba site featuring pre-Inca constructions by the Wari civilization.
At Warawtampu, we will visit significant structures from the Inca period, including the Incawasi and the Baño del Inca water fountain, as well as admire the stunning staggered waterfalls that extend for almost 2 miles (3 kilometers).
Following this enriching experience, we will return to Cerro de Pasco, aiming to drop you back at your accommodation by around 6 pm.
