Goñicutac, Astobamba & Warawtampu Day Trip
At 7 am, we'll pick you up from your accommodation in Cerro de Pasco and head to the Chaupihuaranga Valley. We will arrive at the village of Rocco and embark on a 1-hour 30-minute walk to the Goñicutac Archaeological Complex, the ancient Yaros settlement from the 13th century that controlled Pasco and Huánuco until the Incas. We'll explore its streets, squares, and passages, as well as the Temple of the Moon, where sacrifices were made.
Next, we'll visit Yanahuanca, where you'll have free time for lunch. We will further explore the archaeological sites in the valley, including Astobamba and Warawtampu, connected by an Inca-built bridge. At Astobamba, we will observe pre-Inca constructions of the Wari civilization, known as "City of Punishment" in Quechua.
At Warawtampu, we will visit several Inca-era buildings, including the Incawasi, or Palace of the Inca, and the Baño del Inca water fountain. We will also admire the cascading waterfalls that extend for almost 2 miles (3 kilometers).
After an incredible day, we will return to Cerro de Pasco and drop you back at your accommodation around 6 pm.
