Huayllay & La Calera Excursion
At 9 am we'll pick you up at your hotel in Cerro de Pasco and make our way to Huayllay. During the one-hour drive, we'll pass through towns of the Peruvian plains such as Colquijirca and Cochamarca before we finally arrive at the Huayllay National Sanctuary, location of the famous stone forest.
This marvel features a collection of about 4,000 rock formations sculpted by nature, due to water and wind erosion. Walking through the park, we'll encounter figures of various sizes, including the Walker, the Elephant, the Alpaca, and the Turtle. This protected area is also home to several species of endemic animals, such as deer, vicuñas, wild cats, and sparrow hawks.
After the visit to the stone forest, we'll head to the town of Huayllay to visit its Plaza de Armas and colonial-style church. Then, we'll leave the town to go to the hot springs of La Calera, about 15 minutes from Huayllay.
This place is known for its waters rich in minerals, including calcium, potassium, and sodium. The temperature can reach up to 60º Celsius. This natural spa attracts many visitors annually who seek the healing properties of La Calera.
Here we'll leave you free time to enjoy the hot springs and to have lunch. Afterward, we'll return to Cerro de Pasco and drop you off at your accommodation, arriving around 3 pm.
