On this tour of the Meseta de Bombón, you'll travel through the central highlands of Peru visiting iconic sites such as Lake Junín and the colonial villages of San Pedro de Pari and San Juan de Ondores.
Meseta de Bombón Tour
Pickup is at 9 am from your accommodation. We will start the tour in the Meseta de Bombón, located east of the Andes, which includes colonial villages and protected areas like the Junín National Reserve, covering 53,000 hectares. A stop will be made in the colonial village of Vicco to visit its 17th-century church.
In the reserve, we'll visit Lake Junín, noted for its biodiversity, home to up to 36 species of birds, including flamingos, Puna ibis, Andean goose, and endangered grebes. Here, we'll also visit San Pedro de Pari to see its colonial church, one of the oldest in South America.
We'll pass through San Juan de Ondores and arrive in Junín, where you will visit the Museum of Natural History and explore the city, including the main square, church of San Ignacio de Loyola, train station, and chapels. There will be free time for lunch.
After lunch, we'll proceed to the historical sanctuary of Chacamarca to learn about a significant event in Peru's history. Our next stop will be the village of Huayre, the capital of maca, to visit its main square before returning to Cerro de Pasco.
We will stop to see the church of San Pedro de Ninacaca before arriving back in Cerro de Pasco at 7 pm, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation.
