Description
At the specified time, we'll meet at exit A of the MRT station at Raffles Place to begin this walking tour around Chinatown. First, we will go to the Sky Garden in CapitaSpring, the second tallest building in Singapore, offering incredible city views.
Next, we'll visit the Temple of Yueh Hai Ching, Singapore's oldest Chinese sanctuary, founded in 1819. Here, you can admire its carvings and mask and learn about the beliefs and rituals of early Chinese immigrants.
Our route continues to Pekin Street, featuring the patio of an old Chinese boys school and passing by the Fuk Tak Chi Museum, formerly a temple for the God of Prosperity.
We will also visit Thian Hock Keng, the most important Hokkien temple in the country, built with materials from China. Sailors would come here to thank the Goddess of the sea. You can view a relic of Buddha's tooth and a gift from the Qing emperor.
After lunch at one of Singapore's oldest noodle houses, we'll explore traditional trades, visiting a tea shop, pastry shop, and ointment store. You will also see murals by the artist Yip Yew Chong, depicting daily life of the past.
