Castelo dos Mouros Tickets

Climb the hills of Sintra and visit the Castelo dos Mouros, a 12th-century Arabian fortress, with this admission ticket.

Castelo dos Mouros Ticket

With this ticket to the Castelo dos Mouros, you'll explore this fortress surrounded by impressive walls. The Castelo dos Mouros was part of the defense of Lisbon during the Islamic presence in the region. After Alfonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, claimed the territory in the 12th century, the Muslims abandoned the fortress, leading to the establishment of a medieval village on its grounds.

Following the end of the conflict between Muslims and Christians in the 15th century, the castle and village fell into abandonment until the 19th century when King Ferdinand II initiated restoration efforts. The significance of this area, including the Castelo dos Mouros, prompted UNESCO to designate Sintra as a World Heritage Site in 1995.

Since the 1970s, archaeological excavations have been conducted at the Castelo dos Mouros, yielding numerous insights into the fortress's history.

By purchasing this ticket, you can visit this site and enjoy stunning views of the Sintra mountain range and the Pena Palace.
