The Palace of Monserrate was built in the 19th century over the hermitage of Nossa Senhora de Monserrate. English nobleman Francis Cook was inspired by the landscape of Sintra to create a palace that combines Gothic, Oriental, and Mozarabic elements. This unique building became a hub for the social life of both Portuguese and English aristocracy in the 19th century.

Famous writers like Lord Byron visited and celebrated its gardens, even referencing Monserrate in his poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage.

The Park and Palace continue to attract visitors exploring its winding paths, lakes, and waterfalls, featuring over 3,000 species of exotic plants, including camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, and bamboos. Enjoy strolling through this enchanting location.

Opening Times

The Park and Palace of Monserrate are open Monday to Sunday at the following times:

Palace: open 9:30 am to 6 pm. Final admission is at 5 pm.Park: open 9 am to 7 pm. Final admission is at 6 pm.

Children Under 6

Children under 6 years old do not require a ticket, but you must go to the ticket office at the Palace of Monserrate to obtain their tickets.
