The Palace was constructed in the 19th century on the site of the hermitage of Nossa Senhora de Monserrate by the English nobleman Francis Cook, who combined Gothic, Oriental, and Mozarabic elements. This unique structure became a social hub for both Portuguese and English aristocracy.
Prominent British writers and poets, including Lord Byron, visited these gardens, which inspired portions of Byron's poetry, such as Childe Harold's Pilgrimage.
The Park and Palace still attract global visitors, offering winding paths, lakes, waterfalls, and over 3,000 species of exotic plants like camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, and bamboo. This ticket enables you to explore this enchanting location.
