English nobleman Francis Cook was inspired by the landscape of Sintra to create a palace that combines Gothic, Oriental, and Mozarabic elements. This unique building became a hub for the social life of both Portuguese and English aristocracy in the 19th century.
Famous writers like Lord Byron visited and celebrated its gardens, even referencing Monserrate in his poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage.
The Park and Palace continue to attract visitors exploring its winding paths, lakes, and waterfalls, featuring over 3,000 species of exotic plants, including camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, and bamboos. Enjoy strolling through this enchanting location.

The Park and Palace of Monserrate are open Monday to Sunday at the following times:
