National Palace of Sintra & Gardens
This ticket allows access to the elegant corridors and rooms of the National Palace of Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. Its origins date back to the 10th century, referenced by the Arab geographer Al-Bakri as a residence of Arab governors. In the 13th century, it was utilized by Denis I of Portugal, who gifted it to his wife, Queen Saint Elizabeth of Portugal, establishing it as a royal residence.
The Lisbon earthquake of 1755 destroyed parts of the building, which were later rebuilt to maintain its 16th-century appearance. Inside, notable areas include the Spanish-Mudejar style rooms, the Hall of the Coats of Arms, the Hall of the Arabs, the Hall of the Swans, and the royal kitchens. The gardens have been restored by Parques de Sintra and have been part of the European Network of Royal Residences since 2013.
The National Palace and its iconic cone-shaped towers are prominent in the landscape of Sintra and the history of Portuguese royalty.
