Palace of Monserrate Ticket
This ticket grants access to the Palace of Monserrate and its renowned English landscape-style garden, recognized as one of Portugal's finest. The palace was constructed in the 19th century on the site of the hermitage of Nossa Senhora de Monserrate by the English nobleman Francis Cook, who sought to blend Gothic, Oriental and Mozarabic elements. This unique structure became a social hub for both the Portuguese and English aristocracy.
Notable British writers, including Lord Byron, visited the gardens and attended summer events here, with references to Monserrate in Byron's poem Childe Harold's Pilgrimage.
