Built in the 18th century by order of King Ferdinand II, the Palacio da Pena attracts millions of visitors every year. To access it, you must cross its gardens through winding paths surrounded by trees and exotic plants from all continents. Ferdinand II sought to create this fairytale setting upon arriving in Sintra.

Upon reaching the top of the hill, the path leads directly to the palace entrance. You can freely explore its interior, courtyards, and towers adorned with red, yellow, and blue tiles and stuccoes.

The palace features a blend of neo-Gothic, neo-Mudejar, and neo-Manueline architecture, resulting in its status as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1995, and as a National Monument since 1910. Since 2013, it is part of the European Network of Royal Residences.

Opening Hours

The selected time shown is for admission to Palácio da Pena. The walk from the ticket office to the palace entrance takes about 30 minutes.

Children under 6 do not need to pay for a ticket but must visit the ticket office at the Palacio da Pena to pick up their tickets.
