Communist Sofia Tour
After meeting at 4 pm in front of the Court House in the heart of Sofia city centre, we will begin our walking tour of the Bulgarian capital's communist past.
We will start by revisiting the end of the Second World War. Our expert English-speaking guide will explain the birth and evolution of the Bulgarian Communist Party and the significance of historic figures such as Stalin and Churchill.
As we walk around Sofia, we will admire emblematic buildings from the Communist era while learning about the activities of the secret police and the state's control tactics. We will examine life under Communism in Bulgaria, including the health system, gender equality, and the historical period's impact on residents today.
We will stop by the old Royal Palace, which now houses the National Art Gallery, before proceeding to the Monument to the Soviet Army, a site of controversy and protest.
Our tour will conclude at around 7 pm in front of the monument dedicated to victims of Communism.
