Nis Day Trip Itinerary

Pick up from your hotel in Sofia is at 8:30 am for a northwest journey to Niš, Serbia's third largest city. After approximately two and a half hours of scenic driving, you will arrive in Niš. The first stop is the Roman ruins of Mediana, an imperial palace from the 3rd century built by Constantine the Great, where you can explore the exterior of this significant archaeological site.

Your tour continues to the Ottoman period with a visit to Niš Fortress, built in the early 18th century, which incorporates earlier fortifications. You will cross the main entrance and explore notable buildings within the complex, including baths, a prison, and a mosque.

Next, you will visit the Archaeological Museum and the Skull Tower (?ele Kula), constructed in the early 19th century using the skulls of Serbian soldiers from the Battle of ?egar during the First Serbian Uprising.

The tour proceeds to Serbia's most notorious Nazi Concentration Camp, established in 1941, where over 35,000 individuals were detained. Visit the memorial museum to learn about the camp's history, known as Crveni Krst or Red Cross.

You will have a one-hour break for lunch in a local restaurant to enjoy traditional local delicacies before returning to Sofia at approximately 7:30 pm.
