Nis Day Trip Itinerary

Having been picked up from your hotel in Sofia at 8:30 am, you'll leave the Bulgarian capital and set off northwest towards Niš, the third largest city in Serbia.

After approximately a two and a half hour drive through the mountainous scenery of the Balkans, you'll arrive in Niš. The first stop will be the Roman ruins of Mediana, an imperial palace built by Constantine the Great in the 3rd century, where you can admire the exterior of this important archaeological site.

Your tour continues with a visit to the Niš Fortress, built in the early 18th century on earlier fortifications. You will explore the castle's entrance gate and significant buildings, including baths, a prison, and a mosque.

Next, visit the Archaeological Museum and the Skull Tower (?ele Kula), constructed by the Ottomans in the early 19th century using the remains of Serbian soldiers from the Battle of ?egar.

The tour includes a visit to Crveni Krst, Serbia's notorious Nazi Concentration Camp, established in 1941. You will explore the memorial museum to learn about its history and victims.

Lastly, enjoy an hour for lunch at a local restaurant, sampling traditional local delicacies. The return to Sofia is scheduled for around 7:30 pm.
