Private Day Trip from Sofia

You can choose between two options for a private day trip. For a visit to the Ancient Roman Empire, select Plovdiv. For churches and monasteries, Rila and Boyana is ideal.

Plovdiv Day Trip (8 hours)

At 9 am, we will meet at St. Alexandar Nevski Cathedral and travel southeast to Plovdiv, a 2-hour journey during which we will learn about the city's history.

Upon arrival, the first stop will be the Traciana fort ruins, dating back over thirty centuries. Next, we will explore Plovdiv's old town, featuring scenic Renaissance houses and churches, concluding at Dzhumaya mosque, one of the oldest Ottoman structures in the Balkans.

We will also visit the Ancient Roman Empire ruins in the main square, including the stadium, forum, and theatre, followed by a stop at Bachkovo monastery, the second largest in Bulgaria, home to the Virgin Mary icon.

The tour concludes with our return to Sofia, arriving at 5 pm.

Rila and Boyana Day Trip (7 hours)

At 9 am, we will meet at St. Alexandar Nevski Cathedral and drive to Rila, approximately two hours from Sofia. The guide will provide historical context during the journey.

The first stop will be Rila monastery, founded in the 10th century by Saint Ivan of Rila. We will learn about the 19th-century fire damage while exploring the complex before enjoying lunch at a nearby restaurant (not included).

Next, we will visit Boyana church, renowned for its artistic significance and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After viewing the church's interior, we will return to Sofia, arriving at 4 pm.
