On this excursion from Sofia, we will tour the Rose Valley, learn about Damascena rose oil, and visit the Buzludzha Monument.
Rose Valley Tour + Buzludzha Monument
We will meet behind Alexander Nevsky Cathedral at the scheduled time and depart for the Rose Valley.
Rose cultivation in Bulgaria dates back to the 16th century, and the country became a leader in rose oil production. We will visit the Damascena Ethnographic Complex to learn about the rose's significance for oil extraction.
Next, we will go to Kazanlak, known for the annual Rose Festival held during May and June. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the town, followed by free time for lunch.
After lunch, we will visit the Buzludzha Monument, a UFO-shaped structure in the Central Balkan Mountains, built during the Bulgarian communist regime. This monument has gained popularity on Instagram.
Before returning, we will stop in Shipka to visit the Memorial Church, honoring soldiers from the Russia-Turkey war. We will return to Sofia after a total of 10.5 hours.
