Rose Valley Tour + Buzludzha Monument
We will meet behind Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and depart toward the Rose Valley.
Rose cultivation in Bulgaria dates back to the 16th century, and by the 19th century, Bulgaria became the global leader in rose oil production. We will visit the Damascena Ethnographic Complex to learn about the rose cultivation process.
Next, we will head to Kazanlak, home of the annual Rose Festival held between May and June. There will be free time for a leisurely stroll and lunch in this town.
After lunch, we will visit the Buzludzha Monument, an abandoned Soviet structure located in the Central Balkan Mountains, known for its unique design and popularity on social media. Artists, including Rita Ora, have filmed music videos here.
Before returning, we will stop in Shipka to see the Memorial Church honoring soldiers from the war between Russia and Turkey. The return trip to Sofia will total 10.5 hours.
