An ancient fortress, historic churches and majestic mosques: spend a day exploring the most important places of interest in Skopje, the political, cultural and economic capital of North Macedonia.

Skopje Day Trip Itinerary

After being picked up from your hotel in Sofia at 8 am, you'll travel southeast towards North Macedonia. Following a three and a half hour drive, you will arrive in Skopje, the capital and largest city.

Experience the historic city by visiting Kale Fortress from the 6th century, offering views of Skopje from its hilltop. From the fortress, proceed to the Church of the Holy Salvation, contrasting with the nearby Sultan Murat Mosque. Nearby, explore the Old Bazaar, reflecting Skopje's Ottoman heritage since the 12th century.

A lunch break at a local restaurant (not included) will follow before you continue across the Vardar River to the newer section of Skopje. Discover the Neo-Classical style square and the Memorial House of Mother Teresa, who was born in Skopje.

Before returning to the bus, admire the Porta Macedonia, a triumphal arch commemorating the 20-year anniversary of independence.

You will return to Sofia at approximately 7 pm.

Please remember to bring your valid passport for this tour, with a minimum of six months validity, as you will cross the border between Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
