Veliko Tarnovo is one of the most important medieval cities in Bulgaria. Discover its architecture on our trip from Sofia, which also visits the historical village of Arbanasi.

Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanasi Trip

We will collect you from your hotel in Sofia early in the morning before heading to the Veliko Tarnovo region. After a journey of almost three hours, we will arrive at the medieval village of Arbanasi, known for its historical churches and religious monuments.

We will visit the Church of the Nativity of Christ to admire its interior frescos, a good example of late medieval Bulgarian religious architecture.

After spending about one and a half hours in Arbanasi, we will continue to Veliko Tarnovo, the medieval capital of Bulgaria. Upon arrival, we will take a break in a traditional restaurant (meals not included).

Next, we will begin our two-hour tour of Veliko Tarnovo, visiting essential landmarks. This 'City of Medieval Tsars' features a 12th-century fortress on Tsarevets hill, including the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Ascension of God.

We will explore Baldwin's Tower, a defensive turret, and the Execution Rock, along with historic houses and government buildings.

We will return to Sofia around 6 pm.
