Veliko Tarnovo is one of the most important medieval cities in Bulgaria. Discover its beautiful architecture on our trip from Sofia, which includes a visit to the historical village of Arbanasi.

Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanasi Trip

We will collect you from your hotel in Sofia early in the morning and head towards Veliko Tarnovo. After a journey of approximately three hours, we will arrive at the medieval village of Arbanasi, known for its numerous historical churches and religious monuments.

We will visit the Church of the Nativity of Christ to admire its interior frescos, a prime example of late medieval Bulgarian architecture.

After spending about one and a half hours in Arbanasi, we will drive to Veliko Tarnovo, recognized as the medieval capital of Bulgaria. Upon arrival, we will take a break in a traditional restaurant for local food (not included).

We will then begin our two-hour tour of essential landmarks. Veliko Tarnovo, also known as Bulgaria's 'City of Medieval Tsars', features a significant 12th-century fortress on Tsarevets hill, home to the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Ascension of God.

We will see Baldwin's Tower, one of the fort's defensive turrets, and Execution Rock, along with historic houses and government buildings.

We will return to Sofia at approximately 6 pm.
