Veliko Tarnovo & Arbanasi Day Trip

Veliko Tarnovo is one of the most important medieval cities in Bulgaria. Discover its beautiful architecture for yourself when you take our trip from Sofia. We'll also visit the historical village of Arbanasi.

Day Trip Details

We will collect you from your hotel in Sofia early in the morning and head towards Veliko Tarnovo. After nearly three hours, we will arrive at the medieval village of Arbanasi, known for its historical churches and monuments.

We will visit the Church of the Nativity of Christ to see its interior frescoes, which exemplify the architectural style of late Middle Ages religious shrines in Bulgaria.

After spending approximately an hour and a half in Arbanasi, we will proceed to Veliko Tarnovo, the medieval capital of Bulgaria. Upon arrival, we will take a break at a traditional restaurant where you can enjoy local cuisine (not included).

Following lunch, we will embark on a two-hour tour of the municipality, visiting key landmarks. Veliko Tarnovo is home to a large 12th-century fortress located on Tsarevets hill, which includes the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Ascension of God.

During our tour, we will see Baldwin's Tower, one of the fortress's turrets, and the Execution Rock, alongside historic houses and government buildings.

We will return to Sofia at around 6 pm.
