Óbidos Guided Tour
At the designated time, we will meet in front of the Óbidos Tourism Office. Once assembled, we will embark on an engaging tour through Óbidos' notable sites.
Our first stop will be the Óbidos Town Gate, the main entrance to Óbidos. We will then proceed to Óbidos Castle to observe its medieval military architecture. During our walk, we will appreciate the medieval ambiance of the flowered houses, historical churches, and communal squares.
We will visit the Mercado Biológico Bookstore, which offers both books and fresh local produce.
Next, we will explore Santa Maria Church, the main church dating back to the Vigothic period, which transitioned from a mosque to a Christian church in 1148 and was renovated in the 16th century.
Our route will include the Jewish Quarter and a visit to Saõ Tiago Church Bookstore, a 12th-century church now known as 'Livraria de Santiago'. We will also enjoy a viewpoint with scenic views of the village and countryside.
The tour concludes with a tasting of Ginjinha, a traditional Portuguese liquor made by infusing berries in alcohol, served in a chocolate cup. We will learn about its origins and role in Portuguese culture. The tour lasts 2 hours and ends after the tasting. See you next time!
