Óbidos Guided Tour
At the designated time, we will gather in front of the Óbidos Tourism Office to begin our tour of key locations in Óbidos.
Our first stop is the Óbidos Town Gate, the main entrance to the town. We will then proceed to Óbidos Castle to appreciate its medieval military architecture. The tour continues through the picturesque streets featuring flowered houses, historical churches, and lively squares.
We will visit the Mercado Biológico Bookstore, which offers books and fresh local produce.
Next, we will explore Santa Maria Church, dating back to the Vigothic period and later converted into a mosque, returning to Christian worship in 1148. The current structure reflects 16th-century renovations.
Our path takes us through the Jewish Quarter to the Saõ Tiago Church Bookstore, a 12th-century church now filled with books. We will then reach a viewpoint for panoramic views of the village and countryside.
To conclude the tour, we will savor a traditional Portuguese liquor, Ginjinha, made from berries, at a local bar in chocolate cups, learning about its origins and significance. The tour lasts 2 hours, finishing after the ginjinha tasting.
