Óbidos Guided Tour
We will meet at the Óbidos Tourism Office at the specified time. After gathering, we will embark on a tour of Óbidos' notable sites.
The first stop will be the Óbidos Town Gate, the main entrance to the town. Next, we will visit Óbidos Castle to observe its medieval military architecture. As we walk, we will appreciate the medieval charm of the area, with its flowered houses, various churches, and central squares.
During the tour, we’ll visit the Mercado Biológico Bookstore, which sells books and fresh local produce.
Afterwards, we will head to Santa Maria Church, the main church of Óbidos, which has its origins in the Vigothic period, having been converted into a mosque and back to a Christian church in 1148. The current structure dates from the 16th century.
Next, we will stroll through the Jewish Quarter and visit the Saõ Tiago Church Bookstore, a 12th-century church, now surrounded by books. We will then reach a viewpoint for impressive views of the village and countryside.
The tour concludes with a tasting of the traditional Portuguese liquor, Ginjinha, served in chocolate cups, where we will learn about its origins and cultural significance. After 2 hours of exploring Óbidos and enjoying Ginjinha, the tour will end. See you next time!
