Óbidos Guided Tour
We'll meet at the Óbidos Tourism Office at the specified time. After gathering the group, we will start the tour of Óbidos' notable locations.
The first stop will be the Óbidos Town Gate, the main entrance. Next, we will visit Óbidos Castle to appreciate its medieval military architecture. As we continue, we will experience the medieval ambiance of flowered houses, churches from various eras, and lively squares.
We will also visit the Mercado Biológico Bookstore, a unique shop selling both books and fresh local produce.
The tour continues to Santa Maria Church, which dates back to the Vigothic period, was once a mosque, and was converted back to a Christian church in 1148, with the current structure dating from the 16th century.
Next, we will walk through the Jewish Quarter and visit the Saõ Tiago Church Bookstore, known as 'Livraria de Santiago', a 12th-century church surrounded by books. From there, we will reach a viewpoint with stunning views of the village and countryside.
To conclude the tour, we will enjoy a tasting of Ginjinha, a traditional Portuguese liquor made from the infusion of berries in alcohol, served in a chocolate cup. We will learn about its origins and significance in Portuguese culture. After 2 hours of exploration and tasting, the tour will conclude. See you next time!
