In this snowshoeing tour through Valle de Lago, we will explore the winter landscapes of the southern part of Asturias.

Snowshoeing Tour in the Valle de Lago

The tour starts at the Valle de Lago car park at the scheduled time, located in the Asturian council of Somiedo at an altitude of 1280 metres (4199 feet). A mountain guide will provide a safety briefing for our hike through icy landscapes.

After the briefing, we will equip ourselves with the necessary gear and begin our walk with snowshoes, moving up the valley amidst the winter landscape featuring "teitos", the traditional huts of the Asturian mountains. We will learn about their origin.

The ascent takes about two hours, reaching an altitude of 1558 metres (5111 feet) at the Lake of the Valley, the largest natural lake in Asturias. Here, we will take a break to admire the snowy and icy lake, surrounded by mountains.

After resting, we will visit 'Cobrana Teito' for panoramic views of the lake. In case of bad weather, we will return by the same route. If conditions permit, we will take the forest path to enjoy the snowy beech forests and the biodiversity of the Somiedo council.

After a five-hour excursion, we will return to the Valle de Lago car park.
