Step back in time with this trip to Charles Town from Kingston, where you’ll learn about the history and culture of this Maroon community.
Day Trip to Charles Town
We’ll pick you up from your hotel starting at 10 am and head north, leaving the Jamaican capital behind.
After an hour and a half, we’ll reach Charles Town, home to one of Jamaica’s largest Maroon communities. Here, we'll visit the Maroon Museum to learn about the history of this community and their fight for freedom.
The Maroons originated from Africans brought as slaves in the 18th century; they fought for Jamaican independence and are now considered independent communities of ex-runaway slaves.
During our exploration of Charles Town, you’ll see locals performing traditional songs and dances.
We’ll next visit Buff Bay River for a refreshing dip, followed by a meal at a nearby restaurant offering local cuisine (lunch not included).
After lunch, we’ll return to Kingston, dropping you off at your hotel around 3 pm.
