On this excursion to the Itaipu dam and the Tatí Yupí Refuge, we'll discover these two landmarks of Alto Paraná in eastern Paraguay.

Description

On the activity day, we'll pick you up at the Shopping del Este shopping centre in Ciudad del Este and travel to Hernandarias, known for its significant Guaraní heritage.

We will first visit the Museo de la Tierra Guaraní, featuring the largest anthropological and biological collection in Alto Paraná, highlighting the rich culture of the region's native communities and their main customs and traditions.

Next, we will head to the Itaipu Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric dams in the world, located on the border between Paraguay and Brazil. Here, we will learn about renewable energy production and sustainable environmental practices.

A break for lunch will follow at a local restaurant. Afterward, we will visit the Tatí Yupí Biological Refuge. This nature reserve along the Paraná River showcases native flora such as cedars, pink trumpet trees and guatambús.

During our visit, covering over 75,000 hectares of forests and wetlands, we will observe how these ecosystems protect thousands of species, including endangered birds like the Tinamus.

After touring the reserve, we will return to the meeting point in Ciudad del Este, approximately 3 to 4 hours after pickup.
