On this excursion to the Itaipu dam and the Tatí Yupí Refuge, we'll discover these two landmarks of Alto Paraná in eastern Paraguay.

Description

On the day of the activity, pickup will be at the Shopping del Este shopping centre. From Ciudad del Este, we will travel to Hernandarias, noted for its significant Guaraní heritage.

We will first visit the Museo de la Tierra Guaraní, which features the largest anthropological and biological collection in Alto Paraná, showcasing the rich culture of the region's native communities along with their customs and traditions.

Next, we will proceed to Itaipu Dam, one of the largest hydroelectric dams in the world, located on the border between Paraguay and Brazil. Here, we will learn about renewable energy production and discuss sustainable environmental practices.

A break will be taken at a local restaurant for lunch. Afterward, we will visit the Tatí Yupí Biological Refuge, located on the banks of the Paraná River, where we will explore significant native flora of Paraguay, including cedars, pink trumpet trees, and guatambús.

The reserve spans more than 75,000 hectares of forests and wetlands, providing habitat for numerous species, including those in danger of extinction like the Tinamus.

At the end of the tour, we will return to the meeting point in Ciudad del Este, expected to arrive 3 to 4 hours after pickup.
