If you're passionate about the world of engineering, then you can't miss this tour to the Itaipu Dam from Foz do Iguaçu - it made the list of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World in 1995!
Itaipu Dam Tour
Between 9 and 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Foz do Iguaçu and set off to the Itaipu Dam, a hydroelectric reservoir on the Parana River with a 120-meter gross head drop. Upon arrival, we will watch a short 10-minute documentary about the history of this dam shared between Brazil and Paraguay. Itaipu is the largest energy producer on the planet.
The tour will continue to the Spillway viewpoint to observe how surplus water is released from the reservoir. We'll then stop at the main viewpoint to admire the dam wall, constructed from concrete, rock, and earth.
Next, we'll explore the power production building, control room, water outlet channel, and the gallery housing the 20 generating units, which produce 103,098,366 Watts per hour.
We'll conclude our visit to this significant hydroelectric power plant and return to your hotel in Foz do Iguaçu, arriving at 1 pm.
Hotel pick up
This tour includes pick up from all hotels in Foz do Iguaçu, excluding Belmond Hotel das Cataratas. If you're staying there or prefer to reach the meeting point yourself, we will contact you with details regarding your arrival time at the entrance of the Iguaçu National Park.
