Setting sail from Stockholm's Klara Mälarstrand pier, we'll begin a boat ride on Lake Mälaren. After an hour of sailing, we'll reach the island of Lovön, where the Royal Domain of Drottningholm is located.

Drottningholm Palace was built in the 16th century and served as the royal family's summer residence until the 19th century. Since the mid-20th century, it has been the private residence of the monarch, although its gardens and much of its interior are open to the public.

After getting your ticket to the palace grounds, you can stroll through its extensive gardens. The oldest part is a Baroque garden with avenues of trees. In the adjoining English garden, you'll find marble statues hidden among the vegetation.

Many kings have altered the interior of Drottningholm Palace over time. As you explore the impressive rooms, you'll learn about the private quarters of some kings and the history of this residence inspired by the Château de Versailles.

On the grounds of Drottningholm, you can also visit the Chinese Pavilion, an 18th-century Chinese-inspired palace, and the Drottningholm Theatre, which hosts an annual summer classical music festival.

The departure time from Klara Mälarstrand pier is 10 am, except in September when it is 11 am. The return from Drottningholm Palace will be:

Entrance to Drottningholm

The entrance to Drottningholm Palace is not included. If you want to visit the palace inside, you must buy the ticket directly at the ticket office upon arrival of the boat.
