Explore Sigtuna, Sweden's oldest town, its Viking history, church ruins, and historic Wenngarn Palace on this enriching tour from Stockholm.
Description
Discover the historical charm of Sigtuna, nestled within a preserved Viking-era street network decorated with 18th-century houses. Delve into the town's rich Viking and Medieval history at the Sigtuna Museum, once the epicenter of Sweden's royalty and religion.
Considered "where Sweden begins", our guide will lead us to see romantic church ruins and Viking runestones. We will wander along the shores of Lake Mälaren, where the runestones unveil Viking stories and the church ruins provide insights into post-Viking Christian life.
We will also visit the 17th-century Wenngarn Palace, the residence of Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie, Sweden’s wealthiest nobleman. Our guide will discuss the palace's well-preserved Baroque architecture and original 17th-century paintings. Gain insights into the lives of Swedish nobility and farmers during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Nearby, we will explore Viby, a farm unchanged since the 1700s, showcasing iconic red countryside buildings. We will learn about Swedish life from two to three centuries ago.
After 5 hours of history, we will conclude the tour with a drop-off at your hotel.
