Spend the day in touch with nature and Bolivian rural traditions on our hike around the Maragua Crater, including a visit to the Niñu Mayu dinosaur footprints.
Maragua Crater Hike
At 8:30 am, we'll meet you at your hotel in Sucre and leave for the village of Chataquila. Our first stop will be at a chapel where Tomás Katari passed away. We will then begin a 2-hour hike along the Inca Trail of Chataquila, observing the scenery and learning about local medicinal plants like muña and wira wira.
Next, we will arrive in the village of Chaunaca and take a bus to the Maragua Crater. Here, we will explore the area while taking in the fresh air. We will also visit local houses to learn about their agricultural and textile production. After this, we will have a picnic lunch.
Post-lunch, we will return to Sucre, stopping at a viewpoint for a panoramic view of the landscape. We aim to arrive back at your hotel by 3:30 pm.
Visiting the Niñu Mayu Dinosaur Footprints
You can book an additional option to visit the Niñu Mayu dinosaur footprints. After lunch and the viewpoint, we'll head to this site considered one of the seven wonders of Chataquila. We will embark on another 2-hour hike to observe real dinosaur footprints from the Cretaceous period. We will return to Sucre and drop you off at your hotel by 5:30 pm.
