Exploration of Sucre's Churches
At the agreed time, a guide will meet you at your accommodation to initiate your exploration of Sucre's rich religious architectural history. This remarkable city is known for having a church virtually at every corner.
The journey commences at the Recoleta Monastery, found in the corresponding neighborhood. Established by Franciscan monks in 1601, this serene site comprises both a church and a museum, serving as a tranquil retreat.
As we stroll through its stunning cloisters, one will reveal an ancient tree, while another offers breathtaking vistas of the Churuquella hill. We will enter the convent's church to admire a wood-carved choir and an impressive collection of colonial and republican era paintings.
Next, we will proceed to the convent of Santa Clara, a space that exudes mystique. Within, we’ll find remarkable works by renowned Bolivian artists, intricate wooden sculptures, and even a 17th-century organ that is reserved for significant ceremonies.
Following this, our itinerary includes the convent of San Felipe Neri, a striking example of affluence during the colonial period. From the grand terraces adorned with towers and tiled domes, you can take in a spectacular view of the numerous bell towers that adorn the skyline of Sucre.
After an enlightening 4-hour journey through the churches of Sucre, we will escort you back to your hotel.
