On this hiking route through Fúquene, we will explore the natural, heritage, and cultural aspects of one of the remarkable villages in the province of Ubaté.
Fúquene Hiking Tour
We will meet at 9 am at the petrol station El Portal De Simijaca to start our hiking route through Fúquene that combines history and nature.
Our first stop will be a traditional handicraft workshop, where we will observe the process of making reed baskets using materials found along the lagoon. This craft has origins in pre-Columbian tribes.
Next, we will proceed towards the ancient village of Fúquene. During the trek, we will encounter native plants such as alders and dandelions. Upon reaching the village at an altitude exceeding 1700 metres (5577 feet), we will learn about the Muisca or Chibcha, an indigenous people, and the life of Teresa de Verdugo, the town's founder.
Our visit will also include the parish church, a colonial structure featuring an altar adorned with emeralds. Participants will have one hour of free time for lunch before we return to the starting point in Fúquene. The tour is expected to conclude at 5 pm.
