On this hiking route through Sutatausa, we will explore the environment of this Colombian town while learning about its history. The journey includes a climb to over 2500 metres (8202 feet) to view the famous cliffs.

Sutatausa Hiking Tour

When booking, you can choose between two hiking routes. Both start at the main park of Sutatausa at 8 am and finish at 4 pm:

Medium Difficulty Hiking Route

This intermediate route covers 9 km (5.5 miles). We will begin by walking through the centre of Sutatausa to visit the church of San Juan Bautista, established in the 17th century, and discuss its significance as a meeting point between the Muisca people and the Spanish colonisers.

Next, we will hike into the surrounding mountains via the Camino Real. After two hours among lush vegetation, we will reach the cliffs of Sutatausa, explaining their formation millions of years ago while enjoying a panoramic view of the Ubaté valley at 2750 metres (9022 feet). Participants will have two hours for lunch before starting the return journey.

High-Difficulty Hiking Route

This option involves a 7-kilometre (4.3 miles) hike with a higher difficulty level, reaching an altitude of 3200 metres (10,498 feet). After visiting the centre of Sutatausa, we will ascend Curuta mountain, observing local wildlife and the cliffs.
