Sutatausa Hiking Excursion
Upon reservation, you can select from two distinct hiking paths. Both adventures commence at the central park of Sutatausa at 8 am, concluding at 4 pm:
Moderate Difficulty Hiking Path
Looking for an intermediate challenge? This 9 km (5.5 miles) trek is perfect for you. We will begin by exploring the heart of Sutatausa, with a visit to the Church of San Juan Bautista, which dates back to the 17th century. This site is significant as it served as a pivotal gathering place for the indigenous Muisca people and the Spanish colonizers.
After our initial exploration, we will venture into the surrounding mountainous terrain. Following the Camino Real trail, we will spend approximately two hours hiking through verdant landscapes until we reach the stunning cliffs of Sutatausa. Here, you will learn about the geological processes that created these fascinating formations millions of years ago while soaking in breathtaking views of the Ubaté valley from an elevation of 2750 metres (9022 feet).
We will provide a two-hour lunch break, allowing you to recharge before commencing our descent back to the starting point.
Challenging Hiking Path
Opting for this more demanding route, we will traverse 7 kilometres (4.3 miles), reaching an elevation of 3,200 metres (10,4987 feet). After familiarizing ourselves with the core of Sutatausa, we will ascend Curuta mountain. During our hike, we’ll have the opportunity to observe the unique local wildlife, along with the impressive cliffs.
