Skaftafell Ice Cave Tour & Glacier Hike
On the day of your tour, meet your guide at the Skaftafell base, where you will receive all necessary specialist equipment, including a helmet, harness, ice pick, and crampons. You will then begin your trek through Skaftafell National Park to Vatnajökull Glacier.
Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and the largest in Europe outside of the Arctic. Hiking over it allows you to explore uneven terrain and marvel at the different ice formations caused by the underlying volcanoes and the glacier's movement.
After hiking, you will proceed to the blue ice cave, located under the glacier. The cave's icy walls are a striking blue color due to the pressure and lack of air. These ice caves are rare natural phenomena formed under exceptional conditions, and you will have time to explore them.
At the end of your tour, return to the original departure point.
