Skaftafell Ice Cave Tour & Glacier Hike
On the day of your tour, meet your guide at the Skaftafell base, where you'll be equipped with all necessary specialist equipment for a safe experience. After receiving your helmet, harness, ice pick, and crampons, you will begin your trek through Skaftafell National Park to the Vatnajökull Glacier.
Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and Europe's largest outside the Arctic. Hiking over it allows you to explore uneven terrain and observe various ice formations caused by underlying volcanoes and the glacier's movement.
Following the hike, you will visit the stunning blue ice cave located beneath the glacier, where the icy walls appear blue due to pressure and lack of air. This natural phenomenon is rare, and you will have time to explore the captivating cave and appreciate its unique scenery.
At the end of your tour, you will return to the original departure point.
