Skaftafell Ice Cave Tour & Glacier Hike
- 4 Stunden
Enter a world of ice and snow: discover the wonder of Iceland's blue ice cave and hike over the enormous Vatnajökull Glacier.
Skaftafell Ice Cave Tour & Glacier Hike
On the day of your tour, meet your guide at the Skaftafell base. You will receive the necessary specialist equipment including a helmet, harness, ice pick, and crampons. The trek begins through Skaftafell National Park to the Vatnajökull Glacier.
Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and in Europe outside the Arctic. Hiking over it offers an opportunity to explore uneven terrain and observe various ice formations caused by underlying volcanic activity and glacier movement.
After the glacier hike, you will visit the stunning blue ice cave, located under the glacier. Due to pressure and limited air, the cave's icy walls exhibit a striking blue colour.
Ice caves are rare natural phenomena, formed under exceptional conditions, and you will have time to explore the cave's unique scenery.
At the end of your tour, you will return to the original departure point.
Important information
The hike is of medium difficulty, lasting around one hour over uneven terrain, and is not recommended for individuals with heart problems. The tour allocates 10 minutes inside the cave for safety reasons.During winter, wear warm, waterproof clothing and hiking boots. In summer, a raincoat is recommended. The necessary equipment (helmet, harness, ice pick, and crampons) will be provided.
