Skaftafell Ice Cave Tour & Glacier Hike

On the day of your tour, meet your guide at the Skaftafell base, where you'll receive all necessary specialist equipment for the activity, including a helmet, harness, ice pick, and crampons. Begin your trek through the Skaftafell National Park towards the Vatnajökull Glacier.

Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland and in Europe outside of the Arctic, offering an incredible hiking experience. Explore the uneven terrain and observe various ice formations created by underlying volcanoes and the glacier's movement.

After your glacier hike, you will visit the stunning blue ice cave located beneath the glacier, where the pressure and lack of air give the icy walls a striking blue color. Ice caves like this are rare natural phenomena formed under exceptional conditions. You will have time to explore the captivating cave and experience its unique scenery.

At the end of your tour, you will return to the original departure point.

Important information

The hike is of medium difficulty, lasting around one hour over uneven ground, and is not recommended for individuals with heart problems. The tour includes 10 minutes inside the cave for safety.In winter, wear warm, waterproof clothing and hiking boots. In summer, a raincoat is recommended. The rest of the equipment (helmet, harness, ice pick, and crampons) will be provided.
