On this guided tour around Mondesa, you'll explore African culture and the impact of apartheid on the Swakopmund area in Namibia.
Mondesa Guided Tour
The guide will meet you at your hotel in Swakopmund to begin the tour of the Mondesa neighbourhood. This suburb was designated for black citizens during the apartheid regime, while the white population was concentrated in other parts of the city. Although the racial segregation system ended in 1991, traces of Mondesa's past remain.
During the tour, you will walk through the streets of Mondesa, engaging with locals and tasting their culinary offerings. Expect to encounter artisan beers and typical dishes, including mopane worms, which are a regional specialty. Participants will be provided with traditional snacks to enhance their cultural experience.
Meeting the locals will provide insight into African culture and history. You will also learn some words in the local language, khoe-khoe, and uncover the significance of the term Ubuntu in African society.
