Visit the most important port city in southern Peru and discover its origins and history on our day trip to Ilo. We'll leave Tacna behind and spend the day in this charming city.
Ilo Day Trip
Once we've picked you up from your hotel in Tacna at 8 am, we'll set off on our day trip to Ilo.
On the way there, we'll pass through the Ite Wetlands and observe views of the lagoons where almost 150 species of birds, such as flamingos, ducks, and seagulls, coexist.
Before reaching the city centre, we'll stop at the Chiribayo Museum in Ilo to learn about this pre-Columbian civilisation that lived in the central-southern Andes between the 10th and 15th centuries. We'll see mummies, textile samples, and ceramic objects during our visit.
We will then explore the historic centre of Ilo, including the Plaza de Armas and the Church of San Jerónimo, built in 1871.
The tour continues to the iconic Port of Ilo, significant for its commercial and historic role, including the landing of Chilean troops during the War of the Pacific.
We'll walk along the Venus Bridge towards the José Gálvez roundabout, an iconic symbol of Ilo with coastal views.
Afterwards, you'll have time to lunch at your leisure in one of the restaurants along the boardwalk. Following lunch, we will stroll along Ilo's beaches, including Puerto Inglés and Pozo de Lizas.
Finally, we will head back to Tacna, arriving at your hotel by 5 pm.
