Ascend Los Volcanes National Park
Are you geared up to discover one of the tallest volcanoes along the Central American volcanic chain? Put on your hiking shoes, and let’s get started!
Starting with a pick-up from a specified location in El Tunco, we will travel to Los Volcanes National Park, where three volcanoes await: Santa Ana, Izalco, and Cerro Verde. This time, our objective is to tackle the tallest among them—Santa Ana.
Upon our arrival, we will commence our hike through the region’s distinctive tropical cloud forest. As we make our way upward, towering century-old trees will envelop us, along with the diverse wildlife that includes coyotes, foxes, ocelots, and a variety of hawks and eagles.
Soaring more than 2,000 meters (6561 feet) above sea level, Santa Ana stands as the tallest active volcano in El Salvador. Upon reaching the peak, we will be rewarded with stunning vistas of its four craters, particularly notable for the striking light blue sulfur lake located in one of them. The breathtaking views of the nearby volcanoes and Lake Coatepeque will certainly leave a lasting impression.
After enjoying these amazing sights, we will start our descent. At any point during the hike, feel free to take a break and enjoy the lunch or snacks you’ve brought. It will be a well-deserved treat after achieving the summit of Santa Ana!
Finally, after an exhilarating 9 to 10 hours, we will conclude our experience by returning you to the original meeting spot in El Tunco.
