Loero Amazonian Community Multi-Day Experience

2-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Your adventure begins with a pickup from Puerto Maldonado’s airport or your accommodations. As we set off, prepare to delve into the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Upon arrival at the Loero community, a warm welcome awaits you from the family who will host you during your stay.

Throughout your time here, you will assist your hosts with a variety of daily activities, such as planting, fertilizing, and harvesting. The first day will focus on planting crops, including staples like papaya, corn, banana, or cassava. Although the work is physically demanding, it is deeply rewarding and culminates in a delightful feast of traditional cuisine.

Day 2

After a refreshing night and breakfast, the morning will be dedicated to harvesting fruit from the fields. Depending on your travel schedule, there may also be an opportunity to engage in activities like fishing in the Amazon River.

We will then facilitate your transport back to either the airport, bus terminal, or your hotel in Puerto Maldonado.

4-Day Itinerary

Days 1-2

The initial two days follow the same framework as the 2-day experience. After lunch on the second day, unwind from your agricultural efforts by joining your hosts for a fishing excursion in the Amazon River or enjoy a refreshing swim in its waters.

Day 3

The third day aims for a more leisurely pace, allowing you to visit neighboring families involved in agriculture or cattle ranching. You will also explore the Tambopata Corridor, an area dedicated to sustainable tourism featuring a wildlife rescue center and breathtaking viewpoints.

During this day, there will be a chance to learn about the traditional uses of medicinal plants by Indigenous Peoples. If you wish, you may also take part in an ayahuasca ceremony intended for mental and spiritual purification.

Day 4

As your transformative experience in the Amazon comes to an end, you will bid farewell to your local family and community members. We will ensure your safe journey back to the airport for your departing flight or to your accommodation in Puerto Maldonado.

Accommodation

This experience includes 1 or 3 nights of full-board accommodation in a local family's home within the Loero community, with pricing based on double occupancy.

Essential Information

Arrival Time: Activities commence early on the first day, so it is advisable to arrive in Puerto Maldonado by 7 AM (a bus from Cusco arrives at this time) or to stay overnight at a nearby hotel. The transfer to the Loero community typically takes around 2 hours.

Departure Time: The return transfer is organized 4 hours prior to your flight or 3 hours before your bus departure. If you select the 2-day option and your flight is early, you may not be able to participate in second-day activities, hence we suggest considering flights departing at 4 PM.

For bus travelers, services generally leave in the afternoon, allowing time for activities, as transfers will occur post-lunch.

On the 4-day itinerary, there are no planned activities on the final day, simplifying your travel logistics.
