Experience a remarkable 5-day expedition through the Tambopata National Reserve, where you'll uncover the amazing biodiversity of the Peruvian rainforest. Engage in thrilling adventure activities such as kayaking and zip-lining as you immerse yourself in this vibrant landscape.

What to Anticipate

Day 1

Your journey commences as we collect you from the Puerto Maldonado airport, bus terminal, or your local accommodation. We will then travel to the river port of the town, where a boat will await to take us to the Tambopata National Reserve. Glide along the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers until we reach our lodging, where you will settle in for the upcoming days.

After getting acquainted with your rooms, we'll indulge in a nourishing lunch. Energized, we will set off for our first exploration of the day—a visit to Isla Rolling, also recognized as Monkey Island. This sanctuary exists to care for and eventually release primates that are at risk back into the wild.

During our time there, we will gain insight into the various monkey species inhabiting the island and have the wonderful opportunity to interact with them, which will surely be a memorable experience!

In the evening, we'll return for dinner at our accommodation before embarking on an adventurous night walk. We'll search for the elusive white caymans along the banks of the Madre de Dios river and, if fortune smiles upon us, we might even encounter the impressive capybara, known as the world's largest rodent.

Day 2

After a hearty breakfast, we will embark on a 3-kilometer trek into the tropical jungle towards Lake Sandoval, one of the most expansive lakes within the reserve, celebrated for its resident piranhas.

As we navigate the lake by boat, we will observe various wildlife that calls this area home. Keep an eye out for stunning creatures like the jacanas, puma herons, scavenger vultures, monkey friars, black-machin, pichicos, and sloths. If luck is on our side and conditions are right, we might spot some alligators or a rare family of giant otters, capable of growing over 4 meters (13 feet) in length!

After our excursion, we'll retreat to our lodging to relax and refuel with lunch. Later, we'll engage in a nocturnal hike to witness the vibrant diversity of wildlife that thrives once the sun sets.

Our day wraps up with dinner back at the hotel.

Day 3

Day three begins early as we rise with the sun for a brief exploration of the Canopy Walkway, a series of bridges suspended 30 meters (98 feet) above the ground. From this lofty perspective, Peruvian nature will unfold before us!

We'll also be treated to stunning views of numerous bird species, including toucans, macaws, tanagers, and oropendolas. It will be a sight to remember! Following this adventure, we will return to the lodge for breakfast and prepare for the next activity.

For those wishing to experience the reserve from even higher above, the next stop will be the zipline circuit, where you can soar above the treetops at remarkable heights. Feel the rush of adrenaline as we zip through the lush canopy! Once our aerial activities conclude, we'll return to the lodge for another satisfying meal.

As the day fades, we’ll embark on a kayaking trip along the Madre de Dios river, allowing us to soak in a breathtaking sunset as we try our hand at fishing in the waters.

Finally, we will conclude day three with dinner and relaxation at the lodge.

Day 4

We rise early once again, boarding a boat to visit the parrot clay lick, a vibrant site that attracts countless colorful birds eager for their mineral-rich morning treat.

After capturing delightful photographs of the parrots, parakeets, and macaws, we will head back to our lodge for a substantial breakfast.

The afternoon will offer a unique opportunity to interact with an indigenous family, who will share insights into their daily life and ancient traditions. It promises to be an enlightening experience!

As the day comes to a close, we return to our accommodation for a fulfilling dinner and some well-deserved relaxation before what lies ahead tomorrow.

Day 5

As our adventure draws to a close, we'll gather for breakfast at the lodge. We will then commence our return journey to Puerto Maldonado at approximately 8 am, taking you to the airport, the bus station, or the hotel you have chosen. Until next time!

Accommodation and Meals

The tour includes accommodating you for 3 or 4 nights, based on your preference, at the Monte Amazonico Lodge. You can expect comfortable and fully equipped lodging.

Pickup Information

The tour provides pickup solely from Puerto Maldonado Airport, the bus station, or your hotel.

If you arrive by bus, we will meet you at the station at 7 am. If you are staying in a hotel in Puerto Maldonado, pickup will occur at 8:40 am.

For those traveling by airplane, we will collect you upon your arrival. If flying from Lima, we recommend the LA2258 flight arriving at 8:10 am in Puerto Maldonado (another flight arrives at 1 pm, which would not allow you to enjoy the first day's lunch). For your return, consider booking the LA 2265 at 5:10 pm, as earlier flights may create risks of missing it due to unforeseen delays.

If you are located outside of Puerto Maldonado, an additional fee of between 50 and 70 USD will apply for pickup, depending on your exact location, payable on the day of the activity.
