Tambopata Parrot Clay Lick Tour: 6 Days

Day 1

From the Puerto Maldonado airport, transfer to the town's river port to board a boat to your accommodation in the Tambopata jungle. After settling in, visit Cocococha Lagoon in the afternoon to spot various avian species, including fisher birds and hoatzins. Climb an observation tower 42 meters high for views of monkeys and toucans, followed by dinner and rest at the lodge.

Day 2

Early morning visit to the parrot clay lick of La Cachuela before breakfast. At around 10:30 am, embark on a hiking route around the ecolodge, observing native birds like tinamous, trogons, and trumpet birds. After lunch, continue birdwatching along the Tambopata River, observing silver herons, eagles, hacks, and macaws. At night, search for nocturnal species such as owls and hawks before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 3

After breakfast, transfer to another lodge in Tambopata. Enjoy a free morning or participate in a guide-proposed activity. In the afternoon, go on a two-hour hike in the La Torre area to observe birds in the forest interior. Return to the lodge around 7:30 pm for dinner and a nocturnal bird search before overnight rest.

Day 4

Depart early by boat to El Chuncho, one of the largest colpas in Tambopata. The crossing takes about four hours, and upon arrival, camp there for a day of birdwatching until dinner.

Day 5

Wake at 5 am for a visit to a macaw clay lick in El Chuncho. Return to the lodge for lunch, followed by a free afternoon.

Day 6

After breakfast, transfer to the Puerto Maldonado airport in time for your flight.
