Lamas Day Trip
We will begin our adventure with a timely pickup from your accommodation in Tarapoto, hopping aboard our comfortable minibus for a scenic ride that lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Upon our arrival in Lamas, we will disembark at the Plaza de Armas. Here, as we admire the striking golden sculptures, we'll delve into the intriguing history of this town, which has faced conquest on two occasions. The first inhabitants came here seeking refuge from the Incas... Through our visit to the Chanka Museum, we will further explore the heritage of the local Indigenous groups and their celebrated festivals.
After approximately 30 minutes enjoying the museum, we will proceed to one of the standout landmarks in the area - Lamas Castle. We will wander through its impressive halls and towers, where breathtaking panoramic views of the nearby mountains await. This medieval-style fortress, surprisingly located in the Peruvian jungle, highlights the unique contrasts of Lamas. We will discuss the relatively recent construction of this remarkable structure.
Following this, our journey will take us to the Wayku community of Lamas, where we will observe their distinctive windowless homes and gain insight into their architecture and lifestyle.
As our enriching day draws to a close, we will make our way back to Tarapoto, completing our trip approximately three hours after we first departed.
