Discover the vibrant streets of a charming northern Peruvian city through our Tarapoto Guided Tour. This remarkable journey offers a glimpse of over 60 animal species at the Centro Urku and includes a visit to a local chocolate factory.
Tour of Wildlife Refuge and Chocolate Factory
At the scheduled time, we will collect you from your hotel and begin an exciting exploration of Tarapoto, often referred to as the "City of Palms".
Our adventure starts at the Urku center, located just a short 15-minute ride by minibus. Peru faces challenges with an illegal wildlife trade that can ensnare as many as 20 animals every minute. At the Urku facility, efforts are focused on the rehabilitation and preparation of rescued wildlife for their return to natural habitats. You will have the opportunity to observe parakeets, macaws, monkeys, and other native species up close.
Following this, we will proceed to visit a chocolate factory alongside a tobacco factory in Tarapoto. This hour-long experience will provide insights into the cultivation of premium cocoa and introduce you to the traditional techniques used in cigar production in Peru.
The tour will wrap up after a total of four hours, returning you to your original departure point in Tarapoto.
