Tour Details
We'll meet at the Baelo Claudia archaeological site parking lot to start our free tour of this impressive Roman site in Andalusia. The tour covers 2,000 years of history along the Atlantic.
We'll cross the ancient Puerta de Gades gates and explore the Forum, surrounded by the Basilica, Voting Hall, and the Temple of Isis. We’ll discuss the Capital Triad of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva, alongside local shops, markets, and bathhouses.
Key reasons for the city’s prosperity include its location for tuna fishing, its ties to North Africa, and the famed export of garum, a fermented fish sauce popular throughout the Empire.
We'll visit the on-site museum to view original artifacts from daily Roman life, including a stone sundial, the statue and tombstone of Junia, and tools used for fishing and hunting. The tour concludes at a detailed city model illustrating the architectural layout and scale of ancient Baelo Claudia after 2.5 hours of sightseeing.
