Tarija City Tour
At the agreed time, we'll pick you up from your hotel to start a tour through Tarijá's emblematic spots and its ancient civilization.
We'll begin our journey with a visit to Luis de Fuentes square, with a detailed overview of 16th century Tarija. The viceroy of Peru ordered captain Luis de Fuentes and Vargas to establish an assent for defense against the chiriguano indigenous people, but the origins of Tarija date back further to the pre-Incan era where it was home to tribes such as the Moyos Moyos, JuJuyes, and Juríes.
Continuing, we'll walk to the Cathedral of San Bernado, founded by Jesuits.
Next, we will visit the Casa Dorada or Golden Home, an emblematic building reflecting art nouveau style, currently housing Tarija's Casa de la Cultura. Shortly after, we'll see the church of San Francisco, founded in 1606, which holds a library with over 1500 historically significant books.
We'll then visit the Paleontological Museum of Tarija, home to dinosaur and mammal fossils, including those of a sloth, armadillo, and a mammoth.
Before concluding the tour, we'll go to the New Central Market. After 4 to 5 hours of touring, you'll be brought back to your Tarija hotel.
