Tarija City Tour
At the agreed time, we'll pick you up from your hotel to begin a tour exploring Tarijá's most emblematic spots and its ancient civilization.
We will start with a visit to Luis de Fuentes square, where we will provide a detailed walkthrough of 16th century Tarija. The viceroy of Peru ordered captain Luis de Fuentes and Vargas to establish a settlement here as a defense against the chiriguano indigenous people. Tarija's origins trace back to the pre-Incan era, inhabited by tribes such as the Moyos Moyos, JuJuyes, and Juríes.
Next, we will walk towards the Cathedral of San Bernado, founded by Jesuits.
Our following stop will be the Casa Dorada or Golden Home, notable for its art nouveau style and currently housing Tarija's Casa de la Cultura. Afterward, we will visit the church of San Francisco, founded in 1606, one of the city's oldest monuments with a library of over 1500 historically significant books.
Then, we head to the Paleontological Museum of Tarija, which houses fossils of dinosaurs and mammals, including sloth and armadillo fossils and an enormous mammoth.
Before concluding the tour, we will visit the New Central Market. After 4 to 5 hours of touring, you will be returned to your Tarija hotel.
